Flashback Friday!
The beautiful nation of Sweden isn’t what you would call a hotbed for producing hugely successful global musical acts. With all due respect to Robyn (who i worship by the way), there are really only three Swedish acts that have achieved major worldwide success. ABBA, Ace Of Base and Roxette. It’s not surprising that ABBA leads this group in total album sales. But what is surprising is that of the three Roxette is the act that owns more singles that hit number one America. And actually it’s not even close. ABBA and Ace Of Base each had one song hit the top spot, while Roxette sat at the throne of the Billboard Hot 100 with FOUR different songs. And you guessed it…this week’s Flashback Friday is one of those #1 tunes.
The disgustingly catchy Joyride, was the Swedish duo’s fourth and final US number one song back in 1991. It came equiped with a whistling chorus that featured the song’s signature line. And i DARE you not to sing along with me…
Hello. You Fool. I LOVE YOU! Come on join the JOYRIDE!
Cheezy? A little bit. But whatever. It’s just pure pop brilliance at its best. Total bliss.
Oh, and i get to see Per and Marie TONIGHT as they are touring North America for the first time in over twenty years. I’m kinda freakin out! I’m a dork, i know. Deal with it. =)
